Admissions Procedure

To be admitted to the nursing program, please complete the following steps.

  1. Submit the following to the College Admission’s office:
    • Completed Application for Admission to the College
    • Official college transcripts from all previously attended colleges
    • High school transcripts or high school equivalency diploma
    • ACT or SAT exam results

Important Instructions Re: Email/Electronic Submission Requirements for February 2021 (Temporary during the COVID-19 social distancing mandate:

  1. February 2021 Application Window (COVID-19 changes due to limited campus access)
    The following are to be submitted electronically, in a single email, to
    • Nursing Program Application,
    • Unofficial transcripts of ALL prior college work including Columbia (PDFs or clearly legible images/photos are acceptable), and
    • Screenshot/copy of best ACT/SAT scores available.

    • Application forms are available on the Nursing Program Web page ( Applications are accepted in February and August. Applications must be received electronically before 4 p.m. on the last day of the month. Applications received before the first day of the application month or after 4 p.m. on the last day of the application month will be returned electronically to the person submitting the application. Faxed applications are not accepted.
  1. Admissions decisions are made based on applicant’s total earned admission points within the admission period with weighted average cumulative GPA as a tie-breaker for applicants with the same admission score. 
  2. If an applicant does not meet the admission criteria, he/she will be notified in writing. When eligibility requirements are met, the applicant will have to resubmit his/her application.
  3. Applicants who are admitted will be notified in writing. Applicants are required to respond to the Nursing Program in writing of their desire to accept their position by the deadline date listed in their letter.
  4. Applicants will be removed from consideration for admission if their responses are not received in the Health Sciences/Nursing office by the deadline date. Students are responsible for promptly notifying the Nursing Program office of any change in name, mailing address, phone number, etc., in order to facilitate contact during the application process.
  5. Students seeking admission by transferring from another nursing program are evaluated for transfer credit on an individual basis. Eligible transfer students will be accepted on a space available basis. Applicants who seek to transfer from another nursing program will submit the following:
    • A Nursing Program transfer application (supplied upon request to Director of Nursing)
    • Official transcripts
    • Catalog descriptions of successfully passed nursing course(s)
    • Syllabi of successfully passed nursing course(s)  
    • A letter of recommendation from the Dean/Director of the previous Nursing Program must be mailed to the Nursing Program Director of Columbia State stating student is in good standing and eligible to continue in program.
