Beverly Mitchell Prize for Creative Writing
The Beverly Mitchell Prize was established by the Columbia State Foundation to honor a beloved English professor and former Perceptions editor, Beverly Mitchell.
Mitchell taught at Columbia State from 1990 to 2020, inspiring students through writing, literature, and creative expression. She also contributed to the local arts community through workshops and volunteerism.
Each year, the student whose work best exemplifies creative excellence in writing receives:
- A $100 prize
- Recognition at the Student Honors Convocation
- Publication in Perceptions
“Colleagues and friends of Beverly Mitchell conceived a creative way to recognize her passion for literary arts and to recognize student talent.”
- Bethany Lay, VP for Advancement, Columbia State Foundation
