Columbia State Fire Science Program Accepting Applications

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. Jan. 31, 2019) - - - Columbia State Community College is accepting applications for the fire science program through Feb. 25.

“Fire science coursework is ideal for new students looking to break into fire services or current fire department employees and volunteers seeking advancement,” said Dr. Kae Fleming, Columbia State dean of the Health Sciences Division.

The program was announced during fall 2018 with the support of fire chiefs throughout Columbia State’s service area .

The  technical certificate program will provide fundamental knowledge that applies to a variety of jobs within the fire service. The program is designed to prepare individuals who have little or no experience with the firefighting profession for entry-level positions in the industry, and allows experienced firefighters to receive credits for knowledge gained through on-the-job training and certifications.

“The training necessary for emergency responders continues to increase and constant education and training is essential to the success of our public safety programs,” said Jeremy Martin, Columbia State fire science program director. “By working together we can enhance and inspire the next generation of firefighters.”

Classes start March 11. Students can expect to take classes covering emergency services, safety and survival, fire prevention, fire protection systems, fire behavior and combustion and more.
