Columbia State Foundation Receives Scholarship Endowment in Memory of Maury County Educators

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - April 16, 2018) - - - Columbia State Community College recently received a scholarship endowment from Mary Margaret Eckhardt and Reid Evans to honor the memory of their parents, Bill and Jean Evans.

The scholarship honors the commitment the Evans family had to education. Bill had a career of over 30 years in education in Maury County, including serving as superintendent of Maury County schools from 1979-1985. Jean taught in Columbia and Spring Hill for over 20 years. The pair believed the path to better lives for the people of Tennessee started with education.

"Columbia State appreciates the children of Bill and Jean Evans honoring their parents in such a way that helps students further their education," said Bethany Lay, Columbia State vice president for Advancement and executive director of the Columbia State Foundation. "As an endowment, it will continue to do so for years to come."

Students studying education and health care can apply for the scholarship.
