Pryor Art Gallery Hosts Schindler Exhibit

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Oct. 26, 2017) - - - Columbia State Community College's Pryor Art Gallery will host "The Schindler Exhibit" offered by the Tennessee Consortium for International Studies Nov. 13 - Dec. 14.

The exhibit, made up of pictorial illustrations, narratives, texts, pictures and other documents, will showcase the story of Oskar and Emilie Schindler who put their lives at risk for over four years to save more than 1,000 Jews from the Nazi regime during World War II.

Living under a ruthless dictatorship, it was the Schindler's profound humane principles that made them behave in favor of their fellow humans. The courage the Schindler couple showed is admirable and serves as an inspiring example of moral and civic courage.

"The Schindlers were authentic heroes and larger than life," said Michele Wilkinson, Pryor Art Gallery curator. "We are in need of more heroes to celebrate in our modern day. A great example of brave selflessness."

"Schindler's List," produced in 1993 by Steven Spielberg, made their life story known world-wide. The movie's dramatic depiction of the rescue of the Jewish prisoners won seven Oscars. The exhibit goes beyond what has been seen in the film - many of the components have not been published before.

The exhibit will be located on the first floor of the Finney Memorial Library on the Columbia Campus located at 1665 Hampshire Pike. The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., and Saturday 12 - 4 p.m.
