(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Dec. 13, 2012) - - - Columbia State Community College's Center for Workforce Development has announced its upcoming professional development courses for January 2013. Choose from a variety of classes, and update your current skills, or learn a new one.

In Introduction to Excel 2010, students will learn to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs, and format worksheets using mathematical formulas. The class takes place on Friday, Jan. 4 at the Columbia campus.
Introduction to Word 2010 is a hands-on class in which students will learn the basics of Word, including adding and editing text, changing margins and tab settings, running grammar and spellcheck, and more. This class will take place on the Columbia campus on Friday, Jan. 11.
The Introduction to QuickBooks 2010 course covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, and more. This class will take place on the Williamson County campus on Saturday, Jan. 12.
The Online Paralegal Career Advancement Certificate course trains students to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. Topics include legal terminology, introduction to the evidentiary predicate, identifying relevant authority, legal research and writing, and appellate procedure. This class begins Monday, Jan. 14 and ends Thursday, April 25.
Medical coders are professionals with skills in classifying medical data from patients' records. As a coding practitioner, you'll review patients' records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure. The Online Medical Coding program consists of six consecutive blocks, which contain four to five courses each and will take approximately six weeks to complete each course. The intensive course will begin Monday, Jan. 14.
Medical transcription is a healthcare profession that is in need of knowledgeable and skilled professionals. Online Medical Transcription is a program that involves an intense curriculum that prepares individuals to be employable and achieve their financial goals. The class begins Monday, Jan. 21.

The EMT Refresher course is a 24-hour course that provides participants with a review and update on the care and treatment of medical trauma emergencies. Participants completing this course will meet refresher requirements for re-certification with the National Registry, earning 2.4 continuing education units. The class begins Tuesday, Jan. 15, and participants must register by Tuesday, Jan. 1.
The Fundamentals of Real Estate course covers a large portion of the Tennessee Real Estate Commission's pre-license course requirements. Topics include the real estate business, agency relationship, contracts, valuation and finance. The course will meet at the Columbia campus for 15 weeks, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Every job has inherent, distinct responsibilities, which require a unique set of competencies, behaviors, knowledge and motivations that are needed to be successful. As part of the Leadership Series, Retention Interviewing gives employers the training needed to have a better opportunity to make the best hiring decisions when gathering meaningful, job-related information from applicants. This class will meet at the Columbia campus on Thursday, Jan. 31.
