PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES ON SCHEDULE FOR MONTH OF NOVEMBER

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Oct. 24, 2012) - - - Columbia State Community College's Center for Workforce Development is offering a variety professional development courses during the month of November. Choose from:

Math Refresher is a course for those individuals wanting to refresh their math skills. Participants will review addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals. The three-day class begins Monday, Oct. 29 on the Lawrence County campus.

Introduction to QuickBooks 2010covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, and other functions. This class will take place on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Williamson County campus.

Take the next step in the QuickBooks series by enrolling in Intermediate QuickBooks 2010. The one-day class will take place Friday, Nov. 16 on the Columbia campus.

Introduction to Excel 2010 teaches participants to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs, format worksheets using mathematical formulas, and other functions of the software. The class takes place on Friday, Dec. 7.

If you already know the basics of Excel, enrolling in Intermediate Excel 2010 will help you get your skills to the next level. The class takes place on Friday, Nov. 9.

World Class Customer Service teaches participants how to provide excellent customer service every day; how to understand customer needs, as well as our own needs and motivation; how to listen to our customers and ourselves; how to communicate while sounding professional in person and on the telephone; and how to provide excellent customer service to angry or hostile individuals. The class is on Monday, Dec. 3.

Motivating Others is offered in conjunction with the Leadership series. In this course, participants will learn how to create an environment that allows individuals and work groups to achieve their full potential. They will learn how to ignite high levels of sustained energy in individuals and groups, as well as how to improve work group results by helping people sustain their motivation. The class will be on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Managing Performance Problems will provide participants who have performance problems with a clear understanding of what they must do to improve and the consequences of failing to do so. Minimize the impact of ongoing performance problems with individuals, work groups and organizations. This class takes place Friday, Nov. 7.

Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider is a seven-hour course that reviews basic life support and airway obstruction. Participants will be working with mannequins to practice and perfect skills. A three-day class begins on the Columbia campus on Friday, Nov. 2, and a two-day class on the Williamson County campus begins Saturday, Nov. 10.

Medical transcription is a healthcare profession that is in great need of knowledgeable and skilled professionals. The Online Medical Transcription program involves an intense curriculum that prepares individuals to be employable and achieve their financial goals. This class begins Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Living with Hospice- Part 3 is a class in which students will discuss the difference between religious and spiritual aspects of end of life care, the importance of psychological and spiritual issues for dying patients and their families. This class describes the role of the volunteer coordinator, volunteers in hospice care and requirements for becoming a volunteer and the bereavement program offered and the difference between pre-bereavement and bereavement. The class is free and open to the public and takes place Tuesday, Nov. 13. Registration is not required.

Medical coders are professionals skilled in classifying medical data from patients' records, and they review patient records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure. The Online Medical Coding program consists of six consecutive blocks, which contains four to five courses and will take approximately six weeks to complete each course. The course begins Monday, Nov. 19.
