Welcome Students!

The Counseling Center is currently experiencing a high volume of appointments.  If you have reached out through phone or email, please give 24-48 hours for a response. All requests will be answered in the order they were received and we will work to get you in as soon as possible.  If you are in crisis please dial 911 or go to your local emergency room.  Mobile Crisis can also be reached at 1-800-681-7444.

The Counseling Center offers free professional mental health counseling for our students. Individual as well as group sessions are available. In addition, the Counseling Center has a wealth of resources for academic achievement for including: test anxiety, study habits and time management.

Our services are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. via HIPAA compliant telehealth video services from TheraNest, phone sessions, or in person on the Columbia Campus if desired.


Suicide Prevention Resources

Columbia State has trained and helpful staff to help students in need. Additionally, Columbia State offers seminars each semester to students, faculty, and staff who want to learn about suicide prevention resources. You can also visit the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network for State-wide information. Text “TN” to 741741 to text or chat with a professional outside of Columbia State.

In accordance with TN Bill 1354, Columbia State devised a plan for suicide prevention for all campuses. Please follow the link for prevention, intervention and postvention directives should you encounter a relevant situation: Suicide Prevention Plan.

Homeless Student Liaison

In the 2019 Legislative Session, House Bill 1000/Senate Bill 763 (now Public Chapter 266) was passed. In summary, this bill requires degree-granting postsecondary educational institutions to designate a staff member (employed in the financial aid office or another appropriate office) to serve as a homeless-student liaison to assist homeless students who are enrolled, or planning to enroll, in the institution. This liaison will be responsible for understanding the provisions pertaining to financial aid eligibility of homeless students, and identifying services available and appropriate for students. This act is to take effect July 1, 2019.
