Columbia State Announces Fall 2021 Commencement Ceremony and Speaker

Columbia State Community College is pleased to announce alumna Corey Cummings will deliver the commencement address to the graduating class during the fall 2021 commencement ceremony that will take place Dec. 11 at 9 a.m. for last names A through L and 11:30 a.m. for last names M through Z.

Cummings graduated from Columbia State in spring 2020 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in business. She served as president of the Student Government Association and as vice president of public relations in Phi Theta Kappa. She also helped to establish Columbia State’s Student Veterans Organization and served as secretary/treasurer and public relations officer.

Cummings organized and participated in many community service projects during her time at Columbia State including the Veterans History Project, Sigma Kappa Delta’s children’s book drive and Phi Theta Kappa’s food and hygiene drive. For her involvement on campus, she received the Columbia Campus Leadership Award. She was also a student worker in the Student Engagement and Disability Resources offices.

Cummings is an Army veteran, first-generation college student and a single mother to her son Cody. A Florida native, she moved to Columbia in 2012. After graduation, she worked at a nursing home in the business office and in medical records. Today, she is a technical assistant at an insurance brokerage firm.

The commencement ceremony will take place in the Webster Athletic Center on the Columbia Campus. The event is not open to the public. Tickets are limited to ensure social distancing and will be required for admission. Masks are encouraged while on campus.

For the safety of students, faculty, staff and guests, security personnel will conduct a speedy inspection of all bags, purses and containers. The following items will not be allowed inside or outside during the commencement ceremonies: weapons, alcohol, laser pointers, lawn chairs, drones, glass containers or any other item deemed unacceptable by Columbia State security or staff.
