Amiee Sadler Represents Columbia State on TBR Presidents' Council

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. –  Feb. 25, 2020) - - - Columbia State Community College Student Government Association secretary/treasurer, Amiee Sadler, was selected as the Tennessee Board of Regents Presidents’ Council community college liaison and is serving as a voice for community college students.

"Being on the TBR Presidents’ Council has given me the opportunity to represent community college students across the state,” Sadler said. “This position has given me the chance to utilize the skills from my classes and apply them in real-world situations. I have had the opportunity to network with other student leaders and share best practices to make sure our students have the best chance for success. I love the opportunity I've been given to speak for all of us."

The Student Government Presidents’ Council Advisory Board is an organization whose membership consists of the Student Government Association president or student leadership organization representative from each Tennessee public postsecondary institution. The group reviews and discusses pertinent statewide and campus-related issues of interest to students. The board also provides an opportunity for networking, sharing successes, seeking solutions and supplementing leadership development for members of the SGPC.

During her time on the council, the Nashville native has attended planning and organizational retreats with other SGA officers from across the state and met with TBR representatives to discuss issues facing students. In March, Sadler will attend the TBR Day on the Hill and meet with legislators to discuss how current legislation impacts students in higher education.

“Columbia State prepared me for this position by having professors and staff that consistently push me beyond my comfort zone and encourage me to use my voice for good,” Sadler said. “Classes like Introduction to Government and Introduction to Communication gave me the base knowledge to make informed decisions and how to articulate them.”

As community college liaison, Sadler sits on the executive council and helps lead community college discussions among peers. She also voices concerns and successes from this sector with the larger presidents’ council.

In addition to her work the TBR Presidents’ Council, Sadler serves as Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society vice president of the Tennessee region, Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society president, Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature Supreme Court chief justice, and is a member of the Student Veterans Organization and PRISM.

Sadler will graduate from Columbia State in May 2020. She plans to continue her education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and earn a bachelor’s degree in social work. Ultimately, she plans to earn a master’s degree in organizational social work, attend law school and work in social justice.
