Columbia State student places second at SkillsUSA State Championship

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. – May 31, 2019) - - -Columbia State Community College student, Anthony Thomas, recently placed second in the Industrial Motor Control competition at the Tennessee state SkillsUSA competition.

The Industrial Motor Control competition allows students to demonstrate their knowledge of electrical principles, equipment and industry codes and standards as it relates to the design and installation of motor control systems. Students demonstrate their skills and abilities in applying that knowledge by properly installing motor control equipment and associated enclosures, raceways, pilot devices and circuitry in accordance with accepted industry practice and National Electric Code requirements.

“He is the first student from the Engineering Systems Technology program to participate in SkillsUSA,” said Mehran Mostajir, Columbia State program director and instructor of EST. “We are very proud of Mr. Thomas’s achievement.”

Thomas, a Hampshire native, works at Nissan where he was selected as a study apprentice in the maintenance department. He was selected for his knowledge and skills in the field after being interviewed and tested for his competencies among other employees that applied for the position.
