The goal of the Career Services Career Clusters Pilot (CSCCP) is to coach and provide meaningful connection for targeted students in the process of choosing a major.

CSCCP will help students identify a career cluster linked to the nearly 50 education pathway programs offered by Columbia State for informed career decisions, therefore decreasing the number of undecided majors.

In keeping with the Columbia State Community College’s Access & Diversity Plan and Strategic Plan, demographic data analyzed on 650 students Columbia State students who are degree-seeking but have undeclared majors include the sub-populations of adults over age 25, African Americans, Pell eligible, those who have attended high school in southern rural areas and all other students needing to be retained in order to persist toward graduation.

Implementation of the CSCCP can prevent undecided students from enrolling in random courses, thereby increasing the cost of attendance and time commitment that can possibly result in retention issues for the college and in failure to complete college goals for the student.  CSCCP will consist of activities, tools and resources for exposure to career choices. Students will be provided with academic transition from the community college to a four-year institution and/or the job market for the purpose of career satisfaction and long-term attachment to the workforce. CSCCP will involve the commitment of Columbia State Community College departments and employees such as Business Services, Human Resources, Facilities Services, Marketing & Public Relations, Information Technology, Institutional Research, TRiO, Grants, A&D, the Academic Deans and Completion Specialists.  Contact Career Services at extension 931.540.2778 in Warf 235 on the Columbia campus.
