A Columbia native, Daniel W. Kelley is an Associate Professor of English who teaches at the Lawrenceburg campus. An enthusiastic do-it-yourself-er interested in sustainability, Kelley began manufacturing biodiesel in 2006 in a barn on his parents’ property. Three years later, he modified a diesel van to run on filtered vegetable oil that he collected from local restaurants. Professor Kelley’s interest in renewable fuels was spurred on by high fuel prices and a desire to reduce his carbon footprint. Since his first test drive, Kelley has traveled more than 50,000 miles in vehicles powered by used vegetable oil.
When he is not teaching or working on his vehicles, Professor Kelley enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, reading, gardening, and hunting (as the seasons allow).
