GED Exam (General Educational Development)

The GED program offers you and opportunity to earn a high school diploma. The GED measures knowledge and skills expected of high school graduates. The five subject tests are Language Arts Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts Reading, and Mathematics. Special editions are available such as large print, audio cassette, Braille, and French and Spanish.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must be 17 years of age. If 17 years of age, candidates must complete and submit a GED Recommendation Form with Sections I, II and III complete. Contact Testing Services to receive a copy of this form.
  2. Candidates who are 18 years of age must have a GED Recommendation Form with sections I and II complete. Contact Testing Services to receive a copy of this form.
  3. Candidates 19 years of age and older must not be enrolled in an accredited high school or have not received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  4. Candidates must provide Practice Test Scores notarized by their Local Adult Education Center.
  5. Retesting: An examinee may retest 3 times during any one contract year.

Registration Steps:

  1. Candidates may pick up registration packets at any Columbia State site or center.   Candidates who have previously tested may submit the GED Retest Application.
  2. Payment is required for complete registration. $75.00 for full battery. $15.00 per subject for partial testing. (Effective January 1, 2008)

Scores:

In the state of Tennessee a passing score is a minimum of 410 on each subject and an overall score of 2250. Scores will be mailed to you in 3 weeks and are valid indefinitely.

You may request an official copy of your GED scores by printing and mailing or faxing the GED Transcript Request Form.
