"I'm getting the tassel at Columbia State," says Microbiology and Anatomy student Zarmina Folad.
Born in Afghanistan, Zarmina Folad married a U.S. citizen while living in Pakistan eight years ago, and now finds herself a proud resident of Franklin, TN. She originally attended Nashville State Technical Community College, but had to stop in order to raise her daughter, who was three years old at that time.
Folad then came to the Williamson County Campus of Columbia State and will graduate in May 2009 and transfer to Tennessee State University to study dental hygiene.
“Everything here is positive,” she says. “The teaching styles and instructors are awesome, and the employees really care about the students, and each other.”
Folad is studying Microbiology and Anatomy right now, and has built her schedule to line up with that of her four year old daughter’s preschool schedule. Folad’s husband is a police officer in metro Nashville, and works long hours. She made the fall dean’s list with a 3.8 GPA and received scholarship money which will carry over to TSU.
