(Columbia, Tenn. – August 16, 2011) - - - Columbia State Community College is proud to announce that Dickson resident, Ev Niewoehner, will be the featured artist at the College’s Pryor Art Gallery during the month of September. His works will be on display and for sale Sept. 2 through Sept. 29.
Niewoehner who draws inspiration from his wide and varied experiences as a history major, art gallery owner, and teacher, has focused on his first love, oil painting, since retiring from teaching in 1999. A visit to the artist’s website www.evniewoehner.com, reveals varied subject matter and multiple interests and stylizations, but the subject of music dominates his work. These works will be the theme of the Sept. exhibit at the Pryor Gallery.
“His colorful oils are stylizations of both instruments and musicians, evocative of the strains being produced,” commented Pryor Gallery Curator, Lucy Kuykendall. “Ev’s work says much without shouting. It is a privilege to have such a talented artist exhibit on our campus. I encourage everyone to come out and view his work,” Kuykendall continued.
Niewoehner has had much over the past decade and has developed a dedicated following or art collectors who seek out his work. His paintings have been included in-group exhibitions in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and across the State of TN. He has been the focus in solo exhibitions at the Renaissance Center in Dickson, at Warner Brothers Studios in Nashville, at Hopkinsville Community College, and the Customs House Museum in Clarksville.
