(Columbia, Tenn. – December 2, 2010) - - - Andy Moore and his five-year-old daughter, Lillian are the featured artists in Columbia State Community College’s Pryor Art Gallery from December, 2010 through January, 2011. An artist’s reception will be held Thursday, December 9, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Andy Moore chooses a narrative arena to explore the language of paint. “I consider myself a figurative painter. Painting in a narrative caption, as I often do, seems only secondary to the act of painting in itself, which reveals an emotional reaction to color, surface texture, and spatial relations,” said Moore. “Representational imagery provides my work a limitless boundary of exploration. Though traditional in format, it is a boundary that is truly my own. The actual associated figures that are transcribed into paint usually exist in my life. As a husband and father of two, much of my work has progressed to painting immediate family members, who have inadvertently become subjects or vehicles by which I explore the language of paint.”
Moore grew up in Columbia and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1997 with a degree in Fine Arts, concentrating on drawing. He further pursued his artistic talents and skills, earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Radford University in Virginia. Moore is married to Mary Kimberly Norton, also from Columbia; and they have three-year-old, Burton, and five-year-old, Lillian. Lillian has been painting with Andy since she was two.
“She is not a heroic painter, but she is free,” her father critiques. “There are no boundaries that contain her imagination within her brushstrokes, choices of color, or even the story she chooses to image. The surface of Lillian’s paintings range from flat to an encaustic approach that almost echoes the stories she was explaining as she created.” A few of Lillian Moore titles are Flowers Grow, Happy, and Daddy Riding His Bike.
Both artists accept commissions (Think Portraits by Andy Moore and Childhood Delights by Lillian Moore).
The Pryor Art Gallery is located in the Waymon L. Hickman building on Columbia State’s Columbia Campus. The Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The gallery is also open on weekends during special events. Both the exhibit and the artist reception are free and open to the public.
