Columbia State's Alumni 5K A Success

(Columbia, Tenn. – November 30, 2010) - - - Runners, sprinters, walkers and WSMV’s Snowbird charged into action at the sound of a cannon at Columbia State Community College’s Fourth Annual Alumni Association 5K Race on Saturday November 20. Participants ranging in age from seven to 71 came out to compete and to help raise money for scholarships.

    “The 4th annual Alumni Association 5K was once again a very successful event raising nearly  $2,000 for scholarships," said Keith Ferguson, race director. "This is truly a community event, in that the majority of our participants come from the immediate area, the event is sponsored by local businesses (such as our presenting sponsor, Community First Bank & Trust), and purchases for the race are made in Maury County."   

    Placing first in the overall female category was 15-year-old Anna Kate Chance with a time of 21:58. Placing first in the overall male category for the third year in a row was 25-year-old Brandon Harmon with a time of 17:22.

    The Alumni 5K Race featured sponsor was Community First Bank & Trust. The in-kind sponsors who provided food, water, fruit, soft drinks and other items were McDonald’s of Maury County, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Burger King, O’Charley’s, Amber Falls Winery & Cellars, Food Lion, Kroger-Campbell Plaza, Piggly Wiggly, Publix, Porter-Walker and The Athlete’s House.
