Columbia State Community College’s fourth annual Alumni Association 5K Race will take place on Saturday, November 20 at 9 a.m. on the Columbia Campus. Registration for the race begins at 8 a.m. at the southwest corner of the campus behind the Waymon L. Hickman Building. The race is presented by Community First Bank & Trust.
“The Columbia State Alumni Association 5K is one of the fastest growing races in Middle Tennessee, said Keith Ferguson, race director. “Now in its fourth year, the T.A.C. certified course is flat and fast. Whether you are a serious a walker or a runner looking for a PR (personal record), the Columbia State Alumni 5K is a well-organized race with lots of amenities. We welcome you to come out and enjoy a great day of exercise and help raise scholarship funds for Columbia State students."
Entry fees are $20 for participants who pre-register and $25 for those who register the day of the race. Pre-registration may be completed by visiting alumni.columbiastate.edu or by contacting Keith Ferguson at (931) 766-1493 or via email at email@example.com or Crystal Keeton on (931) 540-2512. All proceeds will go toward helping the Alumni Association provide funds for scholarships to students in need at Columbia State Community College.
The excitement surrounding the professionally timed race will be compounded by the presence of WSMV’s Emmy-winning penguin, Snowbird. The 2009 race featured runners from 65 locales and ranging in age from seven to 83. Participants will receive race t-shirts. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
Prizes will be awarded to participants who finish in first, second, and third place overall, and in each age group. There will be split timers at all mile markers. Walking is allowed, however for the safety and enjoyment of all participants, no skateboards, inline skates, bikes, or pets will be allowed on the course.
