Columbia State Community College hosted the Rogers Group, Inc. 19th Annual J.R. Moon Golf Classic yesterday at the Saddle Creek Golf Club in Lewisburg.

“It is such a pleasure to be a part of this community-wide effort. Golfers, committee members, donors and volunteers make this the successful event it is every year,” said Elizabeth McDow, director of the Lewisburg campus. “Because of the herculean efforts of our community partners, residents of Marshall County are eligible to receive much needed financial help with their tuition and/or books.”

Twenty-nine teams, made up of 116 golfers turned out for the tournament, which included putting and “Beat the Pro” contests. More than 75 sponsors and donors showed their support, including Rogers Group Inc., title sponsor; First National Bank, lunch sponsor; First Farmers Bank, putting contest sponsor; Roberts Toyota, hole-in-one contest sponsor; First Commerce Bank, player gift bag sponsor; and Lewisburg Printing, “Beat the Pro” contest sponsor. Other sponsors include Saddle Creek Golf Club and PepsiCo.

The proceeds from this golf tournament benefit Marshall County students through scholarships and support of the Columbia State Lewisburg Campus. Since its inception, proceeds from the tournament have provided scholarships to more than 165 students attending the Lewisburg campus.
