Workforce Development Sets November Classes

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Nov. 11, 2013) - - - Columbia State Community College’s Center for Workforce Development is offering a variety of professional development courses. Courses include computer, health care, leadership fundamentals and workplace regulations for anyone who would like to learn new skills or refresh the ones they already have.

In “Introduction to Excel 2010” students learn to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs, and format worksheets using mathematical formulas. The class will take place on the Columbia campus Nov. 15.

The “Introduction to QuickBooks 2013” course covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, as well as other updates from 2013 software. This class will take place Nov. 22 on the Columbia campus.

“Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider (CPR)” is a seven-hour course that reviews basic life support and airway obstruction. Students will be working with mannequins to practice and perfect skills. This class will be offered at the Williamson County campus Nov. 16 and at the Columbia campus Nov. 29.

“EMT Refresher” is a 24-hour course that provides participants with a review and update on the care and treatment of medical trauma emergencies. Participants completing this course will meet the requirements for re-certification with the National Registry and will receive 2.4 continuing education units. The three-day course will take place on the Columbia campus Nov. 14, 20 and 26.

The U.S. health industry faces a formidable task of preparing for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision implementation. The “Medical Coding: Transition to ICD10” class will help medical office personnel to better understand the changes, learn how to use the new codes, and help prepare a strategy to be ICD – 10 ready by the October 2014 compliance date. This class will take place at the Williamson County campus Nov. 15 – 16 and at the Columbia campus Dec. 6 – 7.

“High Impact Feedback and Listening” is a course that focuses on creating a culture of teamwork and performance. Students will learn to support colleagues' job performance, growth and development; build authentic, trusting relationships on the job; choose opportunities to give and seek feedback more wisely; handle, reduce or eliminate defensiveness or negative emotions that can occur in a feedback discussion; and how to provide effective, positive and developmental feedback. This class takes place on the Columbia campus Nov. 15.
