Columbia State Releases Basketball Audit Findings

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. – March 1, 2013) - - - Columbia State Community College is releasing the findings of a recent National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) audit of the men’s basketball program.

The audit results revealed a clerical error made by the College in which a transfer waiver form was not obtained for an individual currently playing for the 2012-13 men’s basketball team. The individual had previously attended both Southwest Tennessee Community College and Kennedy-King College prior to transferring to Columbia State. A transfer waiver form was obtained from Kennedy-King College, the college he had most recently attended, but not from the first institution.

Due to the lack of the second transfer waiver form, the player was determined to be ineligible for the first part of the season. As a result, the men’s basketball team will forfeit all wins of the 2012-2013 season prior to February 28.

“Once the oversight was discovered, the College immediately contacted Southwest Tennessee Community College and obtained the required signed transfer waiver form,” said Louis Conner, director of athletics at Columbia State. “Upon receipt of the signed form, the player automatically became eligible and will continue to play for the Chargers for the remainder of the season.”

“Moving forward, the College has drafted and approved a plan of action to prevent this type of error from occurring in the future,” explained Conner.

The Columbia State men’s basketball team will move to the tenth seed as they head to the regional tournament being held March 5-9 at Motlow State Community College in Tullahoma, Tenn.
