AMAZING GOLDEN DRAGON ACROBATS FLY IN TO COLUMBIA STATE

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Oct. 5, 2012) - - - The Golden Dragon Acrobats of China join Columbia State Community College’s First Farmers Performance Series for a one-night performance Thursday, Oct. 25 in the Cherry Theater. It will be night of exciting acrobatics and high flying fun.

The time honored tradition of Chinese costumes and spectacular acrobatics dating back 25 centuries. Today, performers bend like rubber and juggle strange objects with their hands and feet, and they balance on towers of chairs. Nationally recognized as a breathtaking show for fans of all ages, this show will prove to be a must-attend adventure.

“The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent the best of a time-honored tradition that began more than 25 centuries ago,” said Dr. Janet Smith, Columbia State’s president. “The Golden Dragon Acrobats are recognized throughout the United States and abroad as the premiere Chinese acrobatic touring company of today. We believe they will appeal to audiences of all ages and hope families will mark their calendars to attend.”

The troupe’s history has spanned several generations. Lien Chi Chang, who began his acrobatic career at age seven, was performing as a young man in Wu Qiao, China, with his family’s troupe when they travelled to Taiwan in 1949. In 1967, Chang officially established the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats. When Chang was named head coach at the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts in 1984, his son, Danny, inherited the Golden Dragons, moving the company to the United States the following year.
