Please note that the make and model of equipment may vary from classroom to classroom.  However, the basic operating instructions listed below can be applied to the majority of the multimedia equipped classrooms at Columbia State Community College.

Unlocking the Compartments

Each multimedia station has equipment compartments. If the doors to the compartments are locked, the key is located in the computer keyboard tray. Note: Faculty who teach in Lewisburg must obtain a key from the Lewisburg campus staff.

Power

The master power switch for the multimedia station is located inside the right compartment. Press the switch in a  downward direction to turn the power "on."  The master power switch should remain on at all times.

Turning the Projector ON/OFF and Selecting Sources

The LCD Projector Switcher is located in the right compartment of the multimedia station. Press the green button on this device to turn the projector on and off. Use the input buttons to the left of the green button to switch the LCD projector's input sources.

Raising & Lowering the Screen

Locate the black "Draper" or brown remote control with up and down arrows. Point the remote control toward the remote sensor and push the appropriate arrow (down arrow to lower screen; up arrow to raise the screen).  The remote sensor may be attached to the screen or on the wall in close proximity to the screen.

Audio Volume Controls

Use the LCD Projector Switcher to adjust the volume of the audio delivered to the room's speakers. The LCD Projector Switcher is located in the right compartment of the multimedia station.  Press the up arrow to increase the volume and the down arrow to decrease the volume.  The "Video" or "AV" knob and the "Master" knob on the audio mixer may need to be adjusted if the audio sounds distorted or there is not enough volume after adjusting the LCD Projector Switcher's volume controls.

Computer

The computer operates on the Microsoft Windows platform. Equipped with Microsoft Office products, this computer is capable of displaying PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets. Additionally, audio CD's, and DVD's can be played using Windows Media Player. Internet access is available to Columbia State Faculty, Staff, and Students.  Please note that not all computers have floppy drives.  We advise that you migrate your presentation material to a CD or a USB storage device.

Laptop Connection and External USB Ports

Each multimedia station is equipped to allow users to connect a laptop computer to the projection system. Connect the appropriate cables from the laptop to the ports located on the box that is mounted on the station. You must have the appropriate VGA cable, LAN cable, and audio cable to connect to the ports. Faculty who are in possession of a Columbia State issued laptop will be provided these cables upon request.

Additionally, users of the station's computer may access the computer's USB ports by plugging in their USB devices into the ports located on the same box  for laptop connection.

Document Camera (Elmo)

A document camera is included in each multimedia equipped classroom that can be used to display transparencies, pages in a book, photographs, and any other visual aids on the screen.  The on/off button is located on the back of the unit.  Zoom and auto-focus buttons are located on the top front of the unit.
