The Chargers and Lady Chargers swept the Volunteer State Tigers at the home game Saturday, Jan. 26. The Lady Chargers won with a score of 85-65, while the Chargers finished 71-60. Five home games are left in the regular season, with Homecoming on February 2.

An assortment of Homecoming Week activities will begin on January 28. Monday begins the week with a blood drive where donors could win $1,000 in airfare, while Tuesday features a day of video games in the student center. "Wacky" Wednesday features a tailgate party, followed by a pool tournament on Thursday. Saturday reigns in the week with a chili cook-off at noon, and the Lady Chargers game at 2 p.m. Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime during the men's 4 p.m. game.

__ The Pryor Art Gallery will host "Photographic Moments" in February, a collection of prints by Lou Outlaw, a professor and associate provost at Vanderbilt University. Outlaw is an educator of African-American studies, and is known for his perspective on the subject. An open house will be held February 1 from 4-6 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibit will run through February 29.




Columbia State rings in the new year with a performance by the Nashville Symphony on Thursday, January 24 at 7 p.m. in the Cherry Theatre. This will be the Nashville Symphony’s fifth visit to the college. The show "A Night at the Opera" will feature the overture to William Tell, Ballet Music from Idomeneo, Rè di Creta, K. 367, Three Dances from The Bartered Bride and a suite from Carmen.




Snowfall covered the Columbia campus as evening classes began Wednesday. During inclement weather, students and employees can call 931-540-2515 for more information on possible closings.




Sophomore Dawn Thoni recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Belmont Bruins beginning in the 2008-09 season. Thoni will transfer as a graduating student from Columbia State Community College. Thoni has a batting average of .360 for the Lady Chargers and has been a second baseman starter for Head Coach Johnny Littrell from the start of her collegiate career. She’s been on the Dean’s list since enrollment, holding a 3.9 GPA.
