Film Crew Technology students participated in the 48 Hours Film Competition in Nashville as part of The Privateers' team. The students won more overall awards than any other group participating in Nashville. During the August 4 awards ceremony, their team, which consisted of professionals and enthusiasts, won the following awards: Best Editing, Best Special Effects, Best Stunts, Best Opening Sequence and Best Spy Genre Movie.

The 2008-09 Performance Series begins on September 25 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the series shows go on sale August 25. The series features two packages: the Theater Package which includes "Tomaseen Foley's Celtic Christmas" and "Marty's El Paso" (starring Jason Petty), and the Musical Heritage Package which includes Wilson Williams and the Platters, John Blount and the John Blount-Dave Tucker Big Band, and the Nashville Symphony.

Barnes & Noble and the Columbia State Foundation have created a Text Book Scholarship for Columbia State students. Barnes and Noble will fund the scholarship with a $10,000 donation for 10 straight academic years starting in 2008-09. The Text Book scholarship will help several Columbia State students purchase their books each year.

The story of Jewish immigration to Tennessee is now documented at Columbia State’s Pryor Art Gallery. The show, titled Bagels & Barbeque; The Jewish Experience In Tennessee, opens Monday, August 4 and continues through Monday, September 29. A panel discussion on the history of Jews in Tennessee will also be held Wednesday, September 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the Pryor Art Gallery.
