
More than 100 runners pounded the pavement on the Columbia Campus in the inaugural Alumni Association 5K Race, raising funds for scholarships. The November 17 event attracted community members from ages 11 to 64. Winners included 17-year-old Michael Wood (overall) and 12-year-old Anna Chance (females).

Long time supporters, the Voiture Local 1394 Forty & Eight Group, made a donation to Columbia State Community College in support of nursing.
"This group has been very supportive of higher education for several years," said Waymon L. Hickman, Columbia State Community College Foundation board member and senior chairman & CEO of First Farmers & Merchants National Bank. "We are pleased that they have decided to donate such a substantial amount to our capital campaign, to provide scholarships in the nursing and healthcare field."

The Soroptimist International of Franklin recently raised funds to provide scholarships for Williamson County students attending Columbia State, through their annual Ham Breakfast. The club sponsors and organizes the event, and volunteers from the club, community and Columbia State work on the day of the breakfast.

Six Columbia State students attended the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL) in Nashville. TISL provides education about state government and gives students a channel to express their opinions on state issues. This year’s general assembly was comprised of delegates from three community colleges, one college, and 10 universities. Students presented more than 50 bills to the student Senate and House of Representatives. |
