Columbia State President O. Rebecca Hawkins and UAW local 1853 members cut the ribbon at the General Motors Corp. Northfield facility. The GM Skill Center and Columbia State will offer free classes for UAW/GM Spring Hill manufacturing employees, retirees and spouses. Classes in adult basic education begin May 14.

The Maury County Office of Emergency Management is hosting an emergency preparedness fair Sat., May 19 at the Columbia Mall from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Come and learn how to plan and prepare your family for disasters and emergencies.

Graduating sophomore Rachel Schultz won an iPod for her logo design, in a contest sponsored by the Student Engagement Committee. The contest, open to all students and employees, sought out a symbol for the college's learning initiative, and the winning entry will be used on future promotional materials.

The 15th Annual Columbia State Foundation Golf Classic was held May 10, to benefit the Columbia State Scholarship Foundation. The Tennessee Farmers Insurance team (Sonny Scoggins, Steve Petty, John Law, and Neal Townsend) were the overall winners of the tournament, and Greg King won the Vulcan Materials Putt Off Contest.

During the summer, the Columbia campus is having some maintenance and remodeling done. Students and visitors are advised to avoid construction areas. Please use an alternate outside path or building entrance to reach your destination.
