Columbia State donated 5,500 canned food and perishable items to Good Samaritan of Lewisburg and Williamson County Domestic Violence Shelter. The canned food drive is an annual event for the college and was sponsored by Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, Student Tennessee Education Association, Professional Staff Organization, and “It’s Never Too Late,” adult student organization.

Columbia State students and employees adopted 100 angels for the annual Angel Tree project that is coordinated by the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Each angel is a gift wish from a local Maury County family who is registered with the Department of Human Services.


 



Columbia State Community College names Janet Smith as new president.
The Tennessee Board of Regents unanimously approved Janet F. Smith as the new president of Columbia State. She will take over the presidency February 18, 2008; the current president, Rebecca Hawkins, will defer her retirement until that date.

Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band
returns to Columbia State Cherry Theater with a new performance of A Hometown Christmas on December 6 at 7 p.m. "A Hometown Christmas" is a nostalgic glimpse into the best memories of Christmases past. Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band will present not just a concert, but a production about a band, a town, and the townsfolk from the past.

A one-of-a-kind bronze bust
of Lady Bird Johnson was unveiled and dedicated to the former first lady on December 9. The event was followed by a community reception, featuring music by Columbia Central High School’s Band and a presentation of colors by CHS’s Navy ROTC. Mrs. Johnson dedicated Columbia State on March 15, 1967, marking the birth of Tennessee’s first community college.

The Commercial Entertainment Program
performed "One Enchanting Christmas" at the Franklin campus on December 7, featuring Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Red Riding Hood, and other fairy tale characters brought to life. The program is one of an elite number of programs in the country to specifically cross-train talented students for careers as singers-dancer-actors.
