Two technical certificate programs have been added to the commercial entertainment curriculum at the Franklin campus: Film Crew Technology and Stage Crew Technology. The new courses fill A mechanical and technical void in the entertainment industry. Students can learn the necessary skills for working as a crew technician in film and video, or as a stagecraft member in live entertainment venues.

The Columbia campus sidewalk improvements are nearing completion, and will be finished before fall classes start. Until then, see the map for directions on which doors are accessible, and tips on where to conveniently park.

Alumnus of the Year recognition was bestowed on Paul Rosson, a 1991 honors graduate of Columbia State. After earning a master's degree, he returned to the school as a part-time faculty member. Rosson was instrumental in the development of the college’s criminal justice program and gave forensic science lectures in high schools across the nine-county service area.

A Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Film, Graphic Design or Fine Arts will soon be available to Columbia State students who earn an associate degree, through a transfer parternership with Watkins College of Art & Design. The program starts fall 2007.

Faculty Member Beverly Mitchell, applied for and received a $1600 arts grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission through the Columbia State Foundation.  The grant will fund an international World Wide Week event for area school children featuring cultural activities in the Cherry Theater.
