Film of college dedication with Lady Bird Johnson being transferred to DVD

White’s Camera Shop is in the process of transferring the library’s Columbia State-related 16mm films to the DVD format, including footage of Lady Bird and Lyndon Johnson at the March 15, 1967 dedication of the college.  These DVD copies will be housed in the special collections room on the first floor of the Columbia library.

The library has placed a display in the lobby of the Columbia library to honor Lady Bird Johnson, who died this summer, for her role in the college’s dedication ceremony.  Stop by and take a look at the pictures and other mementoes of Lady Bird and that special event in the college’s history.

The library is also in the process of preserving other college-related media items (VHS, audiotape, audiocassette).  Over the course of a year, Holly Tkaczyk reviewed 100+ U-matic (3/4 in.) videotapes for content and quality.  Bob Trybalski and Stewart Marston are working with us to transfer these videos to DVDs.  Bob and Stewart are also working with us to transfer audiotape and cassettes to CD format.  Librarian Anne Scott has supervised this preservation project.

Get a recommended list of library resources for your class assignment

Last year we offered “online librarian” assistance in several classes.  Although questions were few, surveys showed that students did make use of recommended library resources.  Based on that experience, we are offering a modified version of this outreach this fall.  Working with Lacey Benns-Owens, Candace Warner, and Stuart Lenig, we have reviewed assignments in several of their classes and provided them with a list of recommended library resources (both print and electronic) that can be posted on their WebCT pages.  The list is flexible so that faculty can add or remove recommended resources as they wish.  If you would like a recommended list of library resources for projects that your students are working on, contact Kathy Breeden, 931-540-2555, breeden@columbiastate.edu.
