Life Work Experience
Upon graduating from John Overton High School in May 1970, I entered the U. S. Air Force Academy in Colorado to forfill my dream to fly fighter jets. Although I studied military aircraft and flew in a training jet, I injured my knee and was discharged in March of 1971. I never went to Vietnam.
When I returned to Tennessee, I entered MTSU and graduated with a B.S. degree in sociology. I loved studying people and their diversity. In June of 1973, I took a job with the Social Security Administraion stationed in Columbia. My job was interviewing people for Federal benefits in Supplemental Security Income, retirement, survivors, disability, and Medicare benefits. It was through my job at SSA that I was able to obtain a Masters of Arts in Sociology with an emphasis in gerontology. I retired from Social Security in January of 1998. In May of 1999, I received a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University. Also during this time, I worked as an adjunct professor for Columbia State Community College. I worked 19 years as a part-time professor before receiving a full time position in August of 2003.
I know that God has guided my opportunities in life. All He asks is that we trust and obey. As humans we fail at this assignment, but we are forgiven because of His infinite Grace. It is my distinct honor to have the privilege of teaching students and representing the faculty at Columbia State Community College.
