Geography: Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What do I study in geography courses? The two physical geography courses (GGY 101 and 102) deal with aspects of the physical environment such as weather, vegetation, soils, rocks. or geology.  The two regional geography courses (GGY 121 and 122) deal with places; GGY 121 encompasses the underdeveloped world, and GGY 122 encompasses the developed world.
  2. When are GGY 101, 102, 121, and 122 courses offered at other locations besides Columbia? Courses rotate  between Columbia, Williamson County, and Lawrence County so that each course if offered every third year at any of these locations.
