FINANCIAL AID: Federal Student Loans

Below are the step-by-step procedures for applying for a federal student loan to attend Columbia State. There are three different sets of instructions, based on the type of student that is applying: First-time borrower, returning student, and exit-counseling student.

New first-time borrower at Columbia State Community College

NOTE: Your loan will be processed when all steps are complete. Depending on time of year, the processing of your student loan may take four to six weeks.

Returning Columbia State students that have previously borrowed federal student loans at Columbia State Community College

  • Complete a Stafford Loan Information and Application Worksheet 2008-2009 form

NOTE: Your loan will be processed when all steps are complete. Depending on time of year, the processing of your student loan may take four to six weeks.


Exit-Counseling Students who graduate, withdraw or drop below half-time status (six credit hours)

  • Complete an Exit Interview:
    • Go to the Mapping Your Future Web site.
    • Choose Student Loan Counseling Interview and click Stafford Exit. Follow directions as given.
    • Columbia State will receive confirmation from Mapping Your Future that you have completed the process.

NOTE: Graduates are required to do exist counseling the semester they are graduating. Borrowers are required to do exist counseling upon withdrawing or dropping below the half-time status (six credit hours).
