LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING COURSES

We offer both specialized training and an annual Regional In-service training course. The in-service course is held five times per year. All training for law enforcement is POST approved.
2012 Grant award from the GHSO to Columbia State creates the Tennessee Highway Safety Training Center
Columbia State received a grant from the TN Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) to train law enforcement officers across the state by offering continuing education courses in traffic safety enforcement and investigation. This program continues the long running Spanish Training Program for Law Enforcement (provided by Partners In Training Consultants, Inc.) and adds many additional traffic safety training courses provided through the TN Law Enforcement Training Officer’s Association. All GHSO grant-funded courses are offered tuition-free to Tennessee law enforcement officers.
The TN Highway Safety Training Center will facilitate 13 POST approved class types listed as follows:
- RADAR/Lidar Operations
- Strategies and Tactics of Patrol Stops (STOPS),
- Basic Spanish Communication for Law Enforcement
- Enhanced Spanish Communication for Law Enforcement
- Spanish Instructor
- At Scene Traffic Crash Investigation
- Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation
- Auto/Pedestrian Crash Investigation
- Utilizing Digital Photography at Crash Scenes
- Motorcycle Accident Scene Training
- Traffic Crash Reconstruction
- Law Enforcement Instructor Development
- Developing a Departmental Traffic Safety Program

Law Enforcement In-Service 2012
Regional In-Service Training for Law Enforcement: (40 hours – POST Approved). Columbia Campus. Course fee: $60.00 per officer. In 2012, there will be three courses offered in the Spring, and two in the fall. This 5 day inclusive training offers P.O.S.T. required Firearms, Child Sex Abuse, Mental Health and EVOC. Additional topics will be taught so officers completing the course and exam will have met the mandatory 40 hour training requirement. All course records are sent to POST upon completion. Full schedules will be available in January 2012. Registration for In-service 2012 is open and can be made by contacting Dawn Riddle. In-service is offered to Certified and Reserve TN police officers.
