LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING COURSES
Thank you for your interest in law enforcement training courses at CoSCC! Our currently scheduled courses are listed below. Please note that all courses require pre-registration. Additional courses not listed may be scheduled; call 931-766-1494 for an updated list, or if you have suggestions for upcoming courses.
FREE Spanish Communication for Law Enforcement (Tennessee Criminal Justice Language Academy): Columbia State has received a grant from the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office to coordinate the Spanish Language Training Program for police personnel. This training is P.O.S.T. approved, conducted throughout Tennessee and may include the following courses:
- Basic Spanish Communication for Law Enforcement (5 days, 40 hours)
- Traffic/DUI Spanish for Law Enforcement (3 days, 24 hours)
- Enhanced Spanish for Law Enforcement (5 days, 40 hours)
- Spanish Immersion (10 days, 100 hours)
- Train-the-Trainer Spanish for Law Enforcement (10 days, 80 hours)

These courses are fully funded by the GHSO and are free for police officers to attend. New course schedules for 2010 will be posted Oct 1, 2009. In-Service Training for Law Enforcement: (40 hours – POST Approved). Columbia Campus. Course fee: $50.00 per officer. For 2009, this 5 day inclusive training offers P.O.S.T. required Firearms, Child Sex Abuse, and EVOC. Additional topics include gangs, domestic violence, Tn COP, Narcotics, Legal Updates, Amber Alert, Down Officer Recovery, and Building Searches. Officers will drive an EVOC course and demonstrate traffic stops. In-Service is offered:
- September 14 - 18, 2009 (course #096138) from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- November 9 – 13, 2009 (course #096139) from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
