Early Childhood Programs

Academic Certificate

This program is designed to meet the needs of students employed in child care.  These students may apply for the C.D.A. (National Child Development Associate) credential from the council on Early Childhood Professional Recognition upon coursework completion at Columbia State.  This credential is not given from Columbia State Community College, but the courses outlined in the certificate program allow a student to prepare their notebook and use the courses towards the application procedure.  This program is also suitable for a beginning Early Childhood student desiring coursework, but perhaps not committed to obtaining a two year degree.

A.A.S. Degree with a major in Early Childhood Education

This program is designed to meet the needs of Head Start teachers, career fields of Early Childhood Education, childcare, and Early Childhood development.  This program emphasizes the professional knowledge and skills essential for a quality childcare provider and educator.

A.S. / A.A. Degree with a major in General Transfer with emphasis in Pre-Early Childhood Education

This program is designed for students who wish to take the first two years of their program towards a B.S. or B.A. in Early Childhood Education.  Students may transfer to a senior institution and complete requirements for a teaching certificate.  The A.A. Degree requires six additional hours of a single foreign language.
