Placement Procedure

Alternative
New student with valid ACT scores 1- 14 in English Student will need all four writing modules (DSPW0801, 0802, 0803, and 0804). Student may challenge ACT placement with the COMPASS Diagnostic + e-write at the expense of the college.

New student with valid ACT scores 15-18 in English

Student will need  DSPW0803 and DSPW0804

Student may challenge ACT placement with the  e-write at the expense of the college.
New student with valid ACT scores 1-11 in Reading Student will need all three reading modules (DSPR0801, 0802, 0803). Student may challenge ACT placement with the COMPASS Diagnostic at the expense of the college.

New student with valid ACT scores 12-18 in Reading

Student will need reading modules DSPR0802 and DSPR0803

Student may challenge ACT placement with the COMPASS Diagnostic at the expense of the college.

New or transfer student with no valid ACT scores

 

Student will need to take the COMPASS Diagnostic for Reading and the COMPASS Diagnostic + e-write for Writing at the expense of the college.

 

 

Student currently in the system with DSPW0700 requirements

 

Student will need all four writing modules (DSPW0801, 0802, 0803, and 0804).

 Student may challenge  placement with the COMPASS Diagnostic + e-write at the expense of the college.
Student currently in the system with DSPW0800 requirements Student will need writing modules DSPW0803 and 0804. Student may challenge  placement with the  e-write at the expense of the college.

Student currently in the system with DSPR0700 reading requirements

 

Student will take DSPR0801, DSPR0802 and DSPR0803.

 Student may challenge  placement with the COMPASS Diagnostic at the expense of the college.
Student currently in the system with DSPR0800 reading requirements Student will take  DSPR0802 and DSPR0803. Student may challenge placement with COMPASS Diagnostic at the expense of the college.

Transfer student with DSPW0700 requirements

 

Student will need all four writing modules (DSPW0801, 0802, 0803, and 0804).

Student may challenge placement with COMPASS Diagnostic + e-write at the expense of the college.
Transfer student with DSPW0800 requirements Student will need writing modules DSPW0803 and 0804. Student may challenge placement with e-write at the expense of the college.

Transfer student with DSPR 0700 requirements

Student must take DSPR0801, DSPR0802, and DSPR0803.

Student may challenge placement with COMPASS Diagnostic at the expense of the college.
Transfer student with DSPR 0800 requirements Student must take  DSPR0802 and DSPR0803. Student may challenge placement with COMPASS Diagnostic at the expense of the college.

Transfer student with college credit

 

Student will have no Reading requirement, which is the current practice of Columbia State.
