Am I Ready to be a BIT Major?

A major in Business Information Technology can lead you into one of the most rewarding and exciting careers in today's world.  A BIT professional works with technology that changes on a daily basis.  You will be continually learning and applying new skills that build on the  basic concepts and skills you acquire in college.  This lifelong learning process continues when your college career ends.

Before deciding on BIT, you need to think about and answer these questions about yourself.

How well can you:

  • Follow instructions in step-by-step sequence
  • Obey rules
  • Understand the patterns or flow within procedures
  • Solve problems with analytical and logical thinking
  • Understand and use basic business English
  • Pay attention to details
These abilities are required for professions such as PC/Network Technician, Network Administrator, Network Engineer, Network Manager, Programmer, Systems Analyst, Web Developer, Webmaster,  Web Programmer, Administrative Office Assistant, Office Clerk, and Secretary. As with any profession, you will need professionalism, motivation, integrity, productivity, and the ability to communicate, work in a team environment, and manage your time effectively.

As a BIT major, you need good study skills.  Expect to work hard and to spend 3 hours outside class for every hour of scheduled class or lab time.  Some students may spend more or less time to be successful.
