Head Coach – Brian Collins

Brian Collins


Brian Collins, a 2006 graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, was a 6th round draft into the National Basketball Developmental League, playing the 2006-2007 season for Finland’s Kouvot Bears. As a college player for the Bruins, Collins scored over 1,000 points and left Belmont as the all-time leader in assists and steals during the Division I era and served as team captain for both his junior and senior years.

After a year of professional basketball in Finland, Collins returned to the U.S. to earn his Master of Education from Tennessee State University, graduating in 2009. During his graduate school years, Collins served as the graduate assistant/director of basketball operations for the TSU Tigers. Before coming to Columbia State, he worked three seasons as an assistant coach at Cumberland University in Lebanon.

“We've got a great team," Collins stated, "but we also work hard at being competitive in the classroom.. Players will be noticed on campus for their academic achievement as well as their shooting stats.”

Coach Collins is married to Lakeya Collins and they have one son, History Collins.

Assistant Coach - Ricky Collins

Ricky Collins

Coach Collins served 35 years in the public schools of Tennessee.  After beginning his coaching career in 1979 with a five year stint as assistant coach at Peabody High School, Collins became an assistant coach at Memphis Technical High School in 1984. He was hired as an assistant coach at Memphis Central High School in 1987 and a year later promoted to head coach. In 1993 to 2005, he was head coach at Pearl-Cohn High School; in 2005-2007, he was an assistant coach at Antioch High School; and in 2007-2013, he was head coach at Whites Creek High School. 

His teams won several district and regional championships, advanced to four sub-state games and two state final fours.  He also coached players such as Randy Carter (Memphis Central), Ron Slay and John Henderson (Pearl-Cohn) all of whom went on to play professionally. 

He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin, B.S. degree in 1979, Trevecca Nazarene University, Master of Education in 1989.  He is married to Andrea Collins and they have two children, Brian and Ashley.

Assistant Coach -  Brandon Lockridge

Brandon Lockridge

Brandon comes to Columbia State from Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet High School in Nashville, TN, where he was the assistant boys coach from 2008-2012. Prior to coaching at MLK, he was the Director of Basketball Operations at Tennessee State University from 2007-2008.

He earned his Master's of Education from Tennessee State while serving as the graduate assistant from 2005-2007. During his playing days at Tennessee State from 2000-2004, he finished as the team co-captain and top 10 in 3 pointers made in school history.
