About This Site

This site has been designed and developed by Proud Lion, LLC, with guidance by the Columbia State Community College Office of Marketing & Public Relations.

The new-and-improved ColumbiaState.edu, built in 2009, is primarily based on the most current versions of popular open-source software, albeit heavily modified and customized for our content and design. By using open-source software, Columbia State has saved many thousands of dollars, which can be better used for other college programs and student services.

This site has been tested with multiple browsers, and should function perfectly in:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 8
  • Mozilla Firefox 3

It has been optimized for our student and community demographics found in southern Middle Tennessee, many of whom still utilize dial-up connections to access the Internet. All images are compressed to the smallest sizes, content is dynamically powered by CSS, and bandwidth-hungry features such as Flash and Java/Javascript have been avoided whenever possible.

The minimum supported resolution is 1024×768, the defacto minimum viewing-size standard since around 2006. Smaller resolutions will see scroll bars. The site is fixed-width, and will look the same on larger monitors.

Traffic is monitored and logged, including both server statistics and by use of Google Analytics.

Some pages and documents found on this site will require the existence of free third-party software on the viewing computer. These include, but are not limited to, PDF viewers (example: Adobe Reader or FoxIt Reader), the Adobe Flash Player 10, and Adobe Shockwave. Your browser may prompt you to install some of these programs when not found, Columbia State Community College is not trying to “send you” something.
