Learning Support - Program
Columbia State Community College offers Learning Support courses to help students whose placement scores show a need to prepare further before taking college-level courses. These courses help students who have been out of school for some time and need a thorough review, as well as those students who have never taken courses.
Fifteen years of statistics compiled since the implementation of developmental studies in 1985, show that a large majority of people who complete learning support courses succeed in subsequent college-level courses and matriculate through their general education courses.
If students' scores on the ACT and/or placement test show that students lack these skills, they are placed in the learning support courses covering needed skills in the areas of Math, Reading, and Writing.*
*Due to the nature of the delivery methods, which are designed to meet Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines, VA currently will not certify Learning Support classes at Columbia State Community College.
